Making money from your blog, while not the hardest thing you’ve ever done, may well not be the easiest either!
If you’re just starting out online, I would suggest a Blogspot blog. Blogger is owned by Google and is very easy to set-up, add content to, and monetize, especially with AdSense, as you might suspect.
If you are going to try to earn some extra money blogging I would opt for a hosted Wordpress.org blog. Why? Because a hosted blog (from my experience) is easier to rank in the serps (search engine results page.) If you would find it difficult to part with the $10.00 or so monthly for hosting than a Blogger blog is the way to go.
Regardless of which platform you decide to use, the best way to start (I think) is to choose a niche (the subject of your blog) that you have some interest in, or better yet are passionate about. This will make writing content (the hardest part for me) for your new blog much easier. Think about it, if you know your subject matter well you don’t have to do much research (if any), you will be able to just write, and that my friend will make your blogging sooo much easier!
If making money online from your blog is part of your plan, you should choose a niche (the topic of your blog) with ready-to-buy customers. How do you do this? You get into you visitors heads and figure out what they will want or need, and then you simply supply that want or need in the pages of your blog. You can turn a simple little blog into a money making machine!
So you want to work from your home and make some extra money online? There are many ways to accomplish this, but I think starting your own blog is the best way! This way you will have an online presents, and will have to do some writing, (which you had better get used to.)

The Vietnamese Wood Furnishings Industry — Can America Make Vietnam the New Taiwan?

“Made in Taiwan” had special meaning when I was a kid (too long ago to count using only one’s digital appendages). It was a phrase generally disdained as implying both poor quality and disloyalty. As labor costs in the U.S. rose throughout the last century, reliance on foreign goods, particularly clothing, furniture, and household items, seriously impacted American manufacturers, putting many factory workers out of a job. “Buying American” was considered the patriotic thing to do, and the smart thing to do, as foreign-made products were generally of lesser quality.
Over time, however, as Asian manufacturers matured, the quality argument could no longer be made, and the Law of Supply and Demand won out. Without externally imposed tariffs, lower prices will always woo consumers, and so, imported Asian goods became staples of the American buyer’s diet. This was nowhere more true than in the home furnishings industry, where shoppers could save a bundle by buying imports.
As the exporting countries respond to the opportunity, however, their economies begin to change. Once-poverty-stricken communities gradually become thriving centers of commerce, with an attendant rise in wages and facilities costs, and all of a sudden, the dirt cheap manufacturing process is no more. Japan, Taiwan, and China have all begun seeking alternative venues and sources of labor for their operations, just as American manufacturers did a few decades ago.
Today’s up-and-coming manufacturing center, at least for wood furniture, is Vietnam. Since 2001, Vietnam’s share of the U.S. furniture market has risen from a negligible 0.1% to a strong second behind 1st-place China, now at 8.3%. China is still far and away the market leader here, providing almost 64% of our imported furniture, a number that has steadily risen, and almost doubled from the 37% seen in 2001. There is no reason to doubt China’s continued dominance in this market, however, Vietnam already has double the share of the next biggest competitor, Malaysia, while once-powerful Taiwan has fallen to one-third of its turn-of-the-century share, with only 2.4% in 2008.
Is Vietnam’s new position sustainable? Well, that depends largely on how she responds to some critical manufacturing challenges currently faced. As I mentioned, Vietnam can provide the labor for pennies per hour, but she’s not particularly well-prepared in some of the other areas required for furniture manufacture. The Vietnamese lack the raw materials–timber and textiles–that are most important to the home furnishings market. They import 70-80% of these items, and also, must look outside the country for the various chemicals required to treat the wood and coverings for crafting and preservation.
These drawbacks notwithstanding, Vietnam has a significant advantage over China in the U.S. market, since currently, Vietnam is not faced with the high level of import tariffs that are levied against Chinese goods, allowing Vietnamese manufacturers to offer lower prices or enjoy higher profits than their Chinese competitors. Furthermore, Vietnamese furniture products have developed a reputation for both quality craftsmanship and unique design details. Vietnam is now embracing her role as a prominent furniture exporter by playing host to an annual furniture expo in Ho Chi Minh City, the HCMC International Furniture and Handicraft Fair and Exhibition.
Clearly, Vietnam would like to replace China, Taiwan, and the other Asian importers as the new “Made in…” here in the U.S., the primary recipient of its fine manufactured wood products. If the American market continues to gobble up her wares as it has, Vietnam’s almost exponential rise should continue.
